Jisoo of the K-pop powerhouse BLACKPINK has officially become the first Korean female soloist to surpass 1 billion cumulative streams on Spotify, according to her agency Blissoo. Per the press release, she reached this landmark just 2.5 years after her solo debut.

This massive streaming milestone was achieved with a remarkably lean catalog of just eight solo singles, starting with her 2023 single album ME and the hit “Flower”, which set a historic benchmark as the best-selling album by a female soloist in South Korea.

The final burst of momentum came from her latest digital single, “Eyes Closed”, a high-profile collaboration featuring British singer and songwriter Zayn (formerly of One Direction).

Released on October 10, “Eyes Closed” immediately proved its global appeal, dominating charts worldwide. It debuted at No. 21 on Spotify’s prestigious Top Songs Global chart and swept the iTunes platform, debuting atop the iTunes Top Singles Chart in 40 regions.

The music video, which starred Zayn and Jisoo in a futuristic space set, resonated strongly across Asia and beyond, quickly shooting to No. 1 on YouTube Music’s worldwide trending chart across 74 countries and topping China’s QQ Music and Kugou daily selling charts.

This multi-platform performance indicates high volume consumption across key international music markets in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Differentiating Streaming Records

In K-pop, how streaming milestones are counted varies widely across agencies, platforms, and tracking sources, and those variations can dramatically affect who holds which “firsts.”

Some agencies count only tracks where an artist is the sole lead, excluding collaborations and features. Other tracking platforms bundle all credits together, including group tracks or guest appearances. Some metrics include remixes, alternate versions, or region-locked streams, while others only consider official versions on international platforms.

These methodological differences frequently result in overlapping or even conflicting records among major artists.

For example:

  • Single-track records (like Lisa’s “Money”) often celebrate the first time a song surpasses a threshold, regardless of who else is featured.
  • Cumulative solo totals aim to aggregate all solo releases, but whether features and collaborations are included or excluded can shift the numbers by hundreds of millions.
  • Geographic filtering is another factor: some counts may omit streams from countries where the artist isn’t officially promoted, or exclude certain platform-specific data (like regional streaming services).
  • Credit attribution complicates things too — in some tracks, multiple artists share “lead” or “feature” tags, and different platforms treat those credits differently.

At the time of publication, Blissoo has not responded to a request for clarification on the precise parameters used in its announcement. However, the assumption is that Jisoo’s record is based on the aggregated streaming total from all her releases where she is credited as the lead or primary artist.

This article will be updated as soon as there is a response.

BLACKPINK Domination

This solo achievement arrives as Jisoo continues her work as a core member of YG Entertainment’s flagship girl group BLACKPINK.

Whether or not she is the absolute first to cross the threshold, Jisoo’s achievement underscores the sheer dominance of BLACKPINK’s members in the global streaming landscape.

Each has independently broken multiple records across Spotify, YouTube, and other platforms: Jennie’s “Solo” was the first by a female K-pop soloist to reach one billion views on YouTube, Lisa’s B-side track “Money” made a 2023 Guinness World Record for first K-pop solo track to reach one billion streams on Spotify, and Rosé created a 2025 Guiness World Record for being the first K-pop artist to reach No.1 on Apple Music’s Top 100:Global Chart.

The group is set to resume their DEADLINE world tour, which kicks off this Saturday in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The tour’s expanded Asian leg — now totaling 20 shows across eight cities, including added dates in Singapore and Hong Kong — is scheduled to run through Bangkok, Jakarta, Tokyo, and Manila until the end of January.
