PANews reported on March 7 that, according to sources familiar with the matter, Wall Street’s two top regulatory agencies, the CFTC and the SEC, are discussing plans to relocate to the same building complex in Washington, D.C., just steps away from the U.S. Capitol.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regulate different markets. According to these sources, the plan will not merge the two, but discussions are underway to move the CFTC into the same building complex currently housing the SEC, near Union Station. This relocation plan has been under discussion since last year, and according to these sources, it could not be implemented until 2027 at the earliest. The General Services Administration (GSA), the agency that oversees federal real estate, is also involved in these discussions.
