CNN Partners With Prediction Market Kalshi to Bring Real-Time Probabilities Into Its Reporting

  • CNN named prediction market Kalshi its official data partner, agreeing to integrate Kalshi’s real-time market probabilities into its on-air and digital news coverage.
  • The data, which covers political, economic, and cultural events, will be used by CNN’s data analysts and will appear in a live ticker to complement traditional polling and forecasting.
  • The partnership highlights the mainstreaming of prediction markets, with Kalshi having recently raised $1 billion at an $11 billion valuation, despite facing a recent class action lawsuit.

Prediction platforms are now fully integrated into the mainstream, it seems, as CNN will start using prediction data from Kalshi in its coverage after naming the platform its official data partner.

The deal gives CNN access to real-time market odds on political, cultural, and economic events. And yes, Kalshi’s data will appear in on-air segments and in a live ticker showing current probabilities when those markets are being discussed.

Harry Enten, CNN’s chief data analyst, will lead the effort inside the newsroom. He plans to use Kalshi’s prices as one more data point alongside polling and traditional forecasting when assessing the chances of elections, policy moves, and other major developments.

Kalshi and Polymarket Go Big

CNN’s editorial, graphics, and production teams will also tap into Kalshi’s feeds. The network says the data will help build charts and visual explainers, add context to stories, and support coverage focused on how expectations shift over time in US politics and other news areas.

“It’s because of this accuracy that Kalshi’s data will serve as a powerful complement to CNN’s reporting”, reads the statement.

Polymarket, Kalshi’s biggest rival, made some moves into the mainstream as well by partnering with Yahoo Finance, basically doing the same, bringing prediction market data for millions of users.

Notably, Kalshi recently closed a US$1 billion (AU$1.53 billion) funding round led by Paradigm, Andreessen Horowitz, and CapitalG, valuing the company at about US$11 billion (AU$16.83 billion), as per a press release.

Not all is sunshine and rainbows, as the betting giant was recently hit with a class action in New York accusing it of running an unlicensed sports betting platform.
