Solana (SOL) Price: Blockchain Ranks First in Popularity for Second Consecutive Year

TLDR

  • Solana (SOL) ranked as the most popular blockchain ecosystem in 2025 for the second year in a row, capturing 26.79% of global interest
  • Despite winning the top spot, Solana’s mindshare dropped 12% from 38.79% in 2024 to 26.79% in 2025
  • Base ecosystem came second with 13.94% of global interest, while Ethereum ranked third with 13.43%
  • Sui ecosystem saw the largest growth, increasing its mindshare by 6.9% year-over-year to reach 11.77%
  • Solana dropped out of the top five crypto narratives after being overtaken by AI agents and Made in USA narratives

Solana has been named the most popular blockchain ecosystem of 2025, according to a new report from crypto data aggregator CoinGecko. The blockchain secured the top position for the second consecutive year.

The study analyzed global web traffic data from January 1 to December 14, 2025. CoinGecko examined 62 blockchain ecosystems that had actively listed coins. The data came from non-botted global web traffic on the platform.

Solana captured 26.79% of global interest in chain-specific narratives this year. This marked a clear lead over competing blockchains.

However, the numbers also revealed a decline in Solana’s dominance. The ecosystem’s mindshare dropped by 12 percentage points from 2024. Last year, Solana had commanded 38.79% of global interest.

Competing Ecosystems Gain Ground

Base ecosystem finished in second place with 13.94% of global investor interest. The platform saw a slight decrease of 2.9% from its 2024 performance of 16.81%.

Ethereum maintained its third-place position from the previous year. The blockchain captured 13.43% of global interest in 2025.

Sui and BNB Chain both moved up in the rankings this year. Sui recorded the largest growth among all ecosystems studied.

The Sui ecosystem increased its mindshare by 6.9% year-over-year. It reached 11.77% of total global interest in chain-specific narratives. This growth rate exceeded all other platforms in the study.

BNB Chain climbed to fifth place after a 4.9% year-over-year surge. The ecosystem captured 9.05% of mindshare. The report attributed this growth to the launch of Binance Alpha in May, which boosted on-chain trading volumes.

New entrants also made their mark on the rankings. XRP Ledger, Bittensor, and Hyperliquid all secured spots in the top 10 for the first time.

Memecoin Association Weighs On Growth

The report identified challenges facing the Solana ecosystem. CoinGecko noted that Solana struggled to expand beyond its connection to memecoin speculation.

The blockchain’s price remained range-bound in 2025. This occurred despite wider institutional adoption marked by the launch of US ETFs.

These factors contributed to Solana dropping out of the top five leading crypto narratives. The ecosystem had held a position in that ranking for the previous two years. AI agents and Made in USA narratives overtook Solana this year.

The Solana memecoin sector also experienced a decline. Global investor interest in Solana memecoins fell by 3.08% compared to 2024. This caused the sector to drop out of the top five narratives.

Across the broader market, memecoins remained the most popular crypto narrative in 2025. The category held 25.02% of global investor interest. However, this represented a 5.65% decline from the 30.67% market share held in 2024.

The study included a total of 20 blockchain ecosystems in its final analysis. These top 20 ecosystems represented 95.60% of all global interest in chain-specific narratives during the period studied.

Two weeks ago, the CFTC gave Polymarket the green light to allow those very same US residents to place bets on whatever they like. This is quite the turn of events — and it’s not just about elections or politics. With its US government seal of approval in hand, Polymarket is reportedly raising capital at a valuation of $9 billion — a reflection of the growing belief that prediction markets will be used for much more than betting on elections once every four years. Instead, proponents say prediction markets can provide a real service to the world by providing it with better information about nearly everything. I think they might, too — but only if insiders are free to participate. Yesterday, for example, Polymarket announced new betting markets on company earnings reports, with a promise that it would improve the information that investors have to work with.  Instead of waiting three months to find out how a company is faring, investors could simply watch the odds on Polymarket.  If the probability of an earnings beat is rising, for example, investors would know at a glance that things are going well. But that will only happen if enough of the people betting actually know how things are going. Relying on the wisdom of crowds to magically discern how a business is doing won’t add much incremental knowledge to the world; everyone’s guesses are unlikely to average out to the truth. If…

Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC

The post Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson has weighed in on whether the Federal Reserve should make a 25 basis points (bps) Fed rate cut or 50 bps cut. This comes ahead of the Fed decision today at today’s FOMC meeting, with the market pricing in a 25 bps cut. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are currently trading flat ahead of the rate cut decision. Franklin Templeton CEO Weighs In On Potential FOMC Decision In a CNBC interview, Jenny Johnson said that she expects the Fed to make a 25 bps cut today instead of a 50 bps cut. She acknowledged the jobs data, which suggested that the labor market is weakening. However, she noted that this data is backward-looking, indicating that it doesn’t show the current state of the economy. She alluded to the wage growth, which she remarked is an indication of a robust labor market. She added that retail sales are up and that consumers are still spending, despite inflation being sticky at 3%, which makes a case for why the FOMC should opt against a 50-basis-point Fed rate cut. In line with this, the Franklin Templeton CEO said that she would go with a 25 bps rate cut if she were Jerome Powell. She remarked that the Fed still has the October and December FOMC meetings to make further cuts if the incoming data warrants it. Johnson also asserted that the data show a robust economy. However, she noted that there can’t be an argument for no Fed rate cut since Powell already signaled at Jackson Hole that they were likely to lower interest rates at this meeting due to concerns over a weakening labor market. Notably, her comment comes as experts argue for both sides on why the Fed should make a 25 bps cut or…
