A Deftones Classic Hits The Top 10 Nearly Three Decades After Its Release

Deftones send Around the Fur to a new peak position on two Billboard charts this week, as the years-old set cracks the top 10 on the vinyl list for the first time. Last year, the rock band Deftones celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of its debut album Adrenaline, which arrived in the fall of 1995 and helped introduce the troupe to a large audience. Next year, Around the Fur, the group’s sophomore set — which brought the act to several Billboard charts for the first time — will celebrate the same birthday.

Ahead of that milestone, and as the rockers continue to push their most recent album, Private Music, Around the Fur climbs to a new high on multiple rankings published by Billboard. The bestseller even manages to crack the top 10 for the first time on one particular list.

Around the Fur Cracks the Vinyl Chart’s Top 10

On this week’s edition of the Vinyl Albums chart, which details the 25 bestselling musical projects on wax, Around the Fur hits an important high. The early-career set by Deftones pushes five spaces to land at No. 9, breaking into the uppermost tier for the first time. Coincidentally, Deftones collects a new top 10 bestseller and lands at No. 9 as Around the Fur reaches nine weeks on the list.

12 different projects by Deftones have landed on the Vinyl Albums chart throughout the years, and all but three have spent time inside the top 10. Around the Fur is currently tied with Live: Volume One – Songs From Adrenaline, which spent one week at No. 9 more than a decade ago.

Counted among the group’s top 10 bestsellers is just a single leader. Ohms launched in first place half a decade back, while both Private Music and Gore missed out on ruling by just one space.

Around the Fur Reaches a New High on the Sales Chart

At the same time that Around the Fur reaches its new peak on the Vinyl Albums chart, the set also manages to establish a more impressive placement than ever before on the Top Album Sales list. That ranking is also focused entirely on purchases, although it is not format-specific. Around the Fur jumps from No. 18 to No. 15, its new high point on the most important sales roster in America.

Interestingly, while Around the Fur climbs to never-before-seen positions on two tallies, the project falls on the four other Billboard-published rankings where it takes up space this week. Around the Fur slips, but manages to hold inside the top 10, on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart, dipping four spaces to No. 10. The effort also declines on the Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums rankings to Nos. 25 and 42, respectively, while dropping nearly 50 rungs on the Billboard 200, where it currently appears at No. 180.

Private Music and White Pony Continue to Chart

Two additional full-lengths by Deftones appear on one Billboard chart apiece, but oddly, they do not live on the same ranking. Private Music, which once topped out in third place, returns to the top 40 as it ascends from No. 43 to No. 37 on the Top Album Sales ranking. White Pony, which followed Around the Fur by three years and turned 25 last year, dips two spots to No. 23 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart.

Around the Fur Benefits From a Quiet January

Around the Fur succeeds largely due to a lack of competition, as January is known as a particularly quiet period in the American music industry. Just one title debuts inside the top 10 on the Vinyl Albums ranking, as Helluva Boss: Season One opens at No. 8, while Prince and The Revolution’s Purple Rain soundtrack is back at No. 4.

There are no debuts ahead of Around the Fur on the Top Album Sales chart, but just as is the case on the vinyl roster, only Purple Rain breaks back in at a loftier space as it relaunches at No. 9.

How Many Copies Did Around the Fur Sell in the U.S. Last Week?

Luminate reports that in the most recent tracking frame, which is reflected on the current Billboard charts, Around the Fur sold just under 3,950 copies. That is down 30% from the period prior, and yet it proved to be enough to help the Deftones favorite climb again.

Saudi Awwal Bank has added Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) and the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) to its digital strategy. CCIP links assets and data across multiple blockchains, while CRE provides banks with a controlled framework to test and deploy new financial applications. The lender, with more than $100 billion in assets, is applying the tools to tokenized assets, cross-border settlement, and automated credit platforms. The move signals that Chainlink’s infrastructure is being adopted at scale inside regulated finance. New York Regulators Push Banks to Adopt Blockchain Analytics

New York Regulators Push Banks to Adopt Blockchain Analytics

New York’s top financial regulator urged banks to adopt blockchain analytics, signaling tighter oversight of crypto-linked risks. The move reflects regulators’ concern that traditional institutions face rising exposure to digital assets. While crypto-native firms already rely on monitoring tools, the Department of Financial Services now expects banks to use them to detect illicit activity. NYDFS Outlines Compliance Expectations The notice, issued on Wednesday by Superintendent Adrienne Harris, applies to all state-chartered banks and foreign branches. In its industry letter, the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) emphasized that blockchain analytics should be integrated into compliance programs according to each bank’s size, operations, and risk appetite. The regulator cautioned that crypto markets evolve quickly, requiring institutions to update frameworks regularly. “Emerging technologies introduce evolving threats that require enhanced monitoring tools,” the notice stated. It stressed the need for banks to prevent money laundering, sanctions violations, and other illicit finance linked to virtual currency transactions. To that end, the Department listed specific areas where blockchain analytics can be applied: Screening customer wallets with crypto exposure to assess risks. Verifying the origin of funds from virtual asset service providers (VASPs). Monitoring the ecosystem holistically to detect money laundering or sanctions exposure. Identifying and assessing counterparties, such as third-party VASPs. Evaluating expected versus actual transaction activity, including dollar thresholds. Weighing risks tied to new digital asset products before rollout. These examples highlight how institutions can tailor monitoring tools to strengthen their risk management frameworks. The guidance expands on NYDFS’s Virtual Currency-Related Activities (VCRA) framework, which has governed crypto oversight in the state since 2022. Regulators Signal Broader Impact Market observers say the notice is less about new rules and more about clarifying expectations. By formalizing the role of blockchain analytics in traditional finance, New York is reinforcing the idea that banks cannot treat crypto exposure as a niche concern. Analysts also believe the approach could ripple beyond New York. Federal agencies and regulators in other states may view the guidance as a blueprint for aligning banking oversight with the realities of digital asset adoption. For institutions, failure to adopt blockchain intelligence tools may invite regulatory scrutiny and undermine their ability to safeguard customer trust. With crypto now firmly embedded in global finance, New York’s stance suggests that blockchain analytics are no longer optional for banks — they are essential to protecting the financial system’s integrity.
