A New Update On ‘Ponies’ Season 2 On Peacock

It’s Emilia Clarke’s highest-profile project since Game of Thrones, and she’s paired with a White Lotus breakout star. That would be her and Haley Lu Richardson starring in Ponies, the new Cold War series on Peacock that just aired all its episodes in a binge dump about a week ago. Now, fans want to know about Ponies season 2, and there’s an update on that front.

Here are creators Susanna Fogel and David Iserson talking to Deadline about the prospect:

They talk more about future potential season 2 storylines, but those get into spoilers, and even I don’t want to read those as I haven’t gotten to watch the show yet. But many have.

Ponies was the #1 show on Peacock for a time, still at #2 behind only the weekly release of The Traitors. But Ponies also has a big claim to fame as the highest Rotten Tomatoes-scored new series release of 2026 so far with a 95%, which also makes it one of the highest in Peacock history. It is probably the highest-scored, highest-profile series since Poker Face, one of the big series that helped launch the still-rather-small streaming service, at least compared to its competition.

I have to believe it’s almost a sure thing that Ponies will be greenlit for a second season. Peacock needs more “staple” original shows than it has, again, compared to its competition, so denying a highly-scored, seemingly well-watched series a second season when its creators and cast are excited about making more would be nonsensical. It is, of course, very early, and it’s only been a week since the season dropped. There’s nothing to read into the fact that there has been no renewal yet.

In promoting the show, Emilia Clarke has given several interviews that harken back to her days as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, where she goes deep into the trauma that came with the ending of her character that fans hated and she…also hated, given the decade of build-up to something that didn’t make much sense.

But now, she’s in this hit show, praised for having great chemistry with Haley Lu Richardson in particular. And they sure act like best friends in all the interviews I’ve seen about the show.

So yes, I think this is pretty much a sure thing at this point, and the main question will be how long it takes to see that season 2.
