Character.AI Enhances Safety for Teen Users

Character.AI has announced a series of significant changes aimed at enhancing the safety of its platform for users under the age of 18, according to the Character.AI Blog. These changes include the removal of open-ended chat capabilities and the introduction of new age assurance functionalities, set to be implemented by November 25, 2025.

New Initiatives for User Safety

In an effort to maintain a secure environment, Character.AI will be restricting users under 18 from engaging in open-ended conversations with AI on their platform. This decision is part of a broader strategy to ensure that teens can engage creatively with AI in a safe manner. Additionally, the platform will limit chat time for underage users to two hours per day, progressively reducing this limit ahead of the full implementation date.

Character.AI is also rolling out an in-house developed age assurance model, complemented by third-party tools such as Persona, to ensure that users receive an age-appropriate experience. This model is a key part of the company’s commitment to safeguarding young users as they interact with AI.

Establishment of the AI Safety Lab

Further emphasizing its dedication to safety, Character.AI announced the creation of the AI Safety Lab, an independent non-profit organization. This lab will focus on advancing safety techniques for AI entertainment features. By collaborating with various stakeholders, including technology companies and researchers, the lab aims to foster innovation in safety alignment for next-generation AI applications.

Rationale Behind the Changes

The decision to implement these changes comes in response to growing concerns about how teens interact with AI. Recent reports and feedback from regulators and safety experts have highlighted potential risks associated with open-ended AI chats. Character.AI’s proactive measures are intended to address these concerns and set a precedent for prioritizing safety in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Character.AI’s approach, which is notably more conservative than some of its peers, reflects its commitment to providing a safe and creative environment for teen users. The company plans to continue collaborating with experts and regulators to ensure that its platform remains a safe space for creativity and discovery.

Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC

The post Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson has weighed in on whether the Federal Reserve should make a 25 basis points (bps) Fed rate cut or 50 bps cut. This comes ahead of the Fed decision today at today’s FOMC meeting, with the market pricing in a 25 bps cut. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are currently trading flat ahead of the rate cut decision. Franklin Templeton CEO Weighs In On Potential FOMC Decision In a CNBC interview, Jenny Johnson said that she expects the Fed to make a 25 bps cut today instead of a 50 bps cut. She acknowledged the jobs data, which suggested that the labor market is weakening. However, she noted that this data is backward-looking, indicating that it doesn’t show the current state of the economy. She alluded to the wage growth, which she remarked is an indication of a robust labor market. She added that retail sales are up and that consumers are still spending, despite inflation being sticky at 3%, which makes a case for why the FOMC should opt against a 50-basis-point Fed rate cut. In line with this, the Franklin Templeton CEO said that she would go with a 25 bps rate cut if she were Jerome Powell. She remarked that the Fed still has the October and December FOMC meetings to make further cuts if the incoming data warrants it. Johnson also asserted that the data show a robust economy. However, she noted that there can’t be an argument for no Fed rate cut since Powell already signaled at Jackson Hole that they were likely to lower interest rates at this meeting due to concerns over a weakening labor market. Notably, her comment comes as experts argue for both sides on why the Fed should make a 25 bps cut or…
