Megan Fudge Takes The Double Gold At The Association Of Pickleball Players 2025 Mesa Open

The Association of Pickleball Players (APP) ran its twelfth pro stop of the 2025 season this past weekend, visiting the famed Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Arizona for the 2025 APP Mesa Open. This is the fifth time the tour has visited the massive facility on the outskirts of Phoenix, but the first time since April 2023 as the park has been involved in some legal issues regarding its ownership. It remains one of the largest custom built facilities in the nation, has previously hosted USA Pickleball Nationals, and has now hosted nearly a dozen major events since 2020.

This event featured massive Champions and Masters senior pro draws, and served as a tune-up for the biggest event on the Senior Pro Calendar, USA Pickleball Nationals, which is being held two weeks from now in San Diego.

Men’s Pro Singles Recap

APP No. 1 Ammar Wazir’s streak of winning three straight Men’s Singles pro events was broken in the semis by Will Howells, who conquered the top seed but wasn’t able to finish off the title. Ronan Camron, who made the singles final at the Chicago Open in August but who had never won a gold before on tour, beat Howells for his first gold.

Women’s Pro Singles Recap

Sofia Sewing won her fourth straight Women’s Pro Singles title, and her eighth of the season, by topping No. 2 Kat Stewart in the final. Sewing’s dominance on tour in singles was on display, and she now has nearly double the ranking points of her closest competitor in Singles. Trang Huynh-McClain, a player who hails from Vietnam and who might best be known as the player who helped topple Andre Agassi’s run at the 2025 US Open, rallied for the bronze.

Mixed Pro Doubles Recap

No. 1 Megan Fudge/Jack Munro took out No. 2 Bobbi Oshiro/Will Howells for the Mixed gold. These two pairs have now played for the mixed gold five times since July of 2024, with Fudge & Munro now edging their rivals 3-2 in this head-to-head matchup.

Gold: Fudge & Munro. Silver: Oshiro & Howells. Bronze: Braverman & Blanco.

Men’s Pro Doubles Recap

Never count your chickens before they hatch; the dominant No. 1 pair of Howells & Munro was shocked in the round of 16 by Max Green & James Broker, no slouches themselves, but this opened up the top half of the draw. The No. 8 seeds seized the opportunity, and Robert Slutsky & Zach Taylor made a run to the final. They couldn’t overcome the No. 2 seeds, the veteran team of Erik Lange and Max “Purple Jesus” Manthou, who crushed the upstarts 5,2 for the gold.

Women’s Pro Doubles Recap

Megan Fudge & Jill Braverman took their 9th gold medal together in Women’s Doubles, topping the No. 3 seeds Sewing & Hendry in the final.

Gold: Fudge & Braverman. Silver: Sewing & Hendry. Bronze: Walczak & Barr.

AARP Champions Pro Competition Quick Recap

• Men’s Champions Pro Singles: Youssef Bouzidi beat both Johansson and Jardim once again to claim gold as he nears No. 1 on tour.
• Women’s Champions Pro Singles: Jennifer Dawson beat her doubles partner Whitwell in the semis, then de-throned the No. 1 on tour Karin Ptaszek-Kochis in the final.
• Men’s Champions Pro Doubles: Tommy Ho & Dayne Gingrich took out the top seeds and held on for the gold.
• Women’s Champions Pro Doubles: Jennifer Dawson teamed up with the unstoppable Lee Whitwell to take the Women’s Champions doubles title.
• Mixed Champions Pro Doubles: Youssef Bouzidi won his first Mixed gold on tour while Jennifer Dawson finished off a Triple Crown.

AARP Masters Pro Competition Quick Recap

• Men’s Masters Pro Singles: David Spearman took the title as the No. 3 seed.
• Women’s Masters Pro Singles: Lupita Curiel won her second career Masters singles title.
• Men’s Masters Pro Doubles: Todd Murphy & Kevin Booth dominated this draw, winning the gold medal 0,5 to claim the title.
• Women’s Masters Pro Doubles: Anna Shirley took another Masters Pro gold, this time teaming with Heather Iffert.
• Mixed Masters Pro Doubles: Beth Bellamy & Scott Moore took their third Masters Mixed title since April.
