Dems pounce as Fox News host pleads with Trump: 'You don't have to swing at every pitch!'
A Democratic congressman on Friday seized on an unlikely source to hammer Donald Trump over his escalating feud with the Pope — Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who urged the president to show some restraint.
Rep. Jared Moskowitz of Florida, speaking with progressive commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, noted that even one of Trump's most reliable defenders on cable news had seen enough.
"You don't have to swing at every pitch, Mr. President," Ingraham said, a line Moskowitz gleefully weaponized against the commander-in-chief.
Trump has spent recent days feuding publicly with the Catholic Church's leader after posting an AI-generated image of himself dressed as a doctor — an image he later deleted — before doubling and tripling down by picking a fight with the Pope rather than walking it away.
Cohen argued the two incidents are directly connected, with Trump using the papal feud as cover for the embarrassing image rather than simply letting it die.
"He does! That's who he is! He never lets sleeping dogs lie," Cohen said. "There's never a moment where he doesn't feel like he needs to have a take."
The duo said the Pope fight is part of a broader pattern of distraction — from the Iran war, from the Epstein files, from an economy where gas is hitting five dollars a gallon.
And unlike past controversies where Trump's base gave him a pass, they suggested the cumulative weight of it all may finally be taking a toll.
"The people who would have given him grace in the past," Moskowitz said, "I just think maybe they stay home. Maybe they don't vote."
