Ex-AG says Republicans just 'said the quiet part out loud' with latest celebration

Former Attorney General Eric Holder delivered a scathing assessment of Republican election strategy, accusing the GOP of abandoning democratic principles in favor of engineering minority rule through voter suppression and gerrymandering.

Appearing on MS NOW, Holder responded to a gleeful quote from a Republican strategist in Louisiana who celebrated the state canceling their primaries just two days before the election. Holder the operative was revealing what the party has long concealed. "I think he's saying the quiet part out loud. That's exactly what it is that they are trying to do," Holder said.

Holder laid bare what he characterized as the GOP's core strategy: "Too many in the Republican party have made peace with the notion that when it comes to popular support, they're going to be a minority party. They're not going to get the majority of the votes, but they're going to have the majority of the power."

He emphasized that while this strategy "is most acutely directed at people of color," it represents a threat to all Americans. "But all Americans need to be concerned about this because the Supreme Court saying, well, you know, we're going to take this tool away from you when it comes to racial gerrymandering. But it's okay if you engage in partisan pandering that affects every American, that decreases the ability of every American citizen to participate in our democracy," Holder explained Sunday.
