Popular Mexico City nightclub charges American tourists a $300 cover fee

The popular nightclub Japan, located in Roma Norte, Mexico City, is charging American visitors a $300 cover fee, while citizens from other countries pay $20 and Mexicans and Latin Americans pay $14, in a protest against Trump's attacks on Mexico.

"This is a response to a year of insults directed at us – as a country – by the United States," club owner, Federico Crespo, said when explaining the intentional price hike to The Guardian, adding, "It's very much a response to the many attacks against Mexico from Trump."

The nightclub posted the updated policy on Instagram, stating, "The cover charge is $5,000 pesos. Citizens of the USA don't get a discount," while offering 93% discounts to other international visitors, 95% discounts to Mexicans and Latin Americans, and 97% discounts to students and teachers.

The Instagram announcement received over 26,000 likes and 200 supportive comments.

Rather than profit from the disparity, Crespo distributes revenue from American cover charges to workers struggling with rising rents and cost of living.
