Left Hook podcaster Wajahat Ali and guest host Danielle Moodie both say American voters are about to blow if President Donald Trump doesn’t stop flashing around his lavish taxpayer-funded $1.4 billion sanctuary for him and his rich buddies.
“The data is clear: over 60 percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck,’ said Ali. “A $400 emergency would bankrupt a majority of the population. Yet, we are told to celebrate a $1.4 billion ballroom that ‘repels weapons.’”
Construction for the project has spiraled from $200 million to $1.4 billion — and Ali said expert interior designers are telling him that “even the most decadent marble and gold leaf” costs a fraction of that. This suggests the money is going somewhere else.
“It isn’t going toward a place for dancing; it’s going toward a command center,” said Ali. “We are witnessing the construction of an underground ‘Star Trek’ situation room — a high-tech lab and survival suite designed to ensure the elite never have to leave, regardless of the chaos unfolding on the surface.
Moodie agreed, saying “I am not an expert on interior design but … I could tell you that a ballroom doesn't need to be S400 million, doesn't need to be $300 million. It could be a couple of million dollars if you want top-of-the-line marble. What they are building is a billionaires’ bunker for Donald Trump, his family, his cabinet, and his closest allies to be able to run the world from underground.”
Gas prices are edging into record territory and climate change is joining other Trump policies to inflate utility bills. With the onset of inflation at the grocery stores and rent, both Ali and Moodie said they couldn’t blame billionaires like Trump and his friends for seeing the sudden value of a bunker that repels weapons fire.
“The more the establishment tries to ignore the suffering of the masses, the more the masses begin to look at the … elite [tent] and realize they aren’t invited,” said Ali. Outrage at barely getting through to the end of the month gets much harder as voters see “Jeff Bezos spend $500 million on a yacht or $50 million on a wedding.”
And Trump’s new gold leaf and marble playpen really isn’t helping, said Ali.
