'This is incredible': Mockery abounds as Trump hints he may skip Don Jr.'s wedding

President Donald Trump suggested Wednesday he might skip his oldest son's upcoming wedding — and social media had a field day.

Asked by a reporter whether he planned to attend Don Jr.'s Memorial Day weekend nuptials with Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson, Trump was less than enthusiastic.

"He'd like me to go, but it's gonna be just a small little private affair, and I'm gonna try and make it," Trump said. "I said, you know, this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things."

The president didn't stop there. "That's one I can't win on," he added. "If I do attend, I get killed. If I don't attend, I get killed. By the fake news, of course."

The remarks set off a wave of mockery online.

Aaron Rupar, who first posted the clip, called it "an all time Trump clip." Progressive commentator Keith Edwards was more blunt: "this is incredible."

Progressive activist Alex Cole didn't hold back. "Imagine hearing your dad tell the entire country he's not sure your wedding fits into his schedule," he wrote. "The guy found time for 300 golf outings, but attending his son's wedding requires careful consideration."

Pod Save America co-host Tommy Vietor, a former Obama NSC staffer, kept it simple: "Trump is considering skipping his son's wedding???"

House Majority PAC research director Liz Charboneau had perhaps the most cutting take, invoking the HBO drama about a dysfunctional media dynasty: "Succession, Season 4, Episode 3."

Bulwark reporter Andrew Egger zeroed in on the contradiction. "Trump has gone golfing 14 times since the Iran War started," he wrote. "But his oldest son gets married and it's 'I have a thing called Iran' lol."

Don Jr. and Anderson are set to wed over Memorial Day weekend at a private island in the Bahamas. Trump announced their engagement at the White House in December 2025.
