Trump torn apart over Memorial Day post attacking enemies and ignoring fallen soldiers

President Donald Trump has made a habit of marking important holidays with posts that are more interested in attacking his own perceived enemies, and this year's Memorial Day is no different, with his latest message insulting "Dumocrats" and his GOP antagonists getting raked over the coals on social media.

Taking to Truth Social on Monday morning, Trump shared a post wishing followers a "Happy Memorial Day," while throwing digs at his many perceived political enemies.

"Happy Memorial Day to all, including the Dumocrats, who disrespect our Military and all of the tremendous success that it has had over the last year," the post read. "God Bless those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. I love you all!"

In turn, the post spurred numerous reactions across other social media reactions, tearing into Trump for his less-than-classy messages marking such a revered and somber American holiday. Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, one of the president's most vocal conservative opponents, was among the most prominent names to go after the post.

"Just the worst man," Kinzinger wrote in a post to X.

Author Jennifer Erin Valent took issue with a post from Fox News, the text of which only included the portion of Trump's message celebrating military veterans.

"Fox highlights the only semi-decent thought here, and brushes right over the insanity, either hoping people won’t read the original post itself or that they’ll join them in ignoring the self-obsessed crudity to find a slim silver lining to defend their support," Valent wrote in a post to X.

"A 'happy' day indeed!" HuffPost reporter S.V. Dáte wrote in his own post.

Dáte's reaction highlighted an aspect of Trump's post that many other users also picked up on. While most holiday greetings traditionally include "Happy," Americans are often urged to avoid it when marking Memorial Day, given that it is meant to commemorate military service members who have lost their lives.

"Loves them when convenient. Private Bonespurs evaded the draft five times," writer and columnist Morris Della Costa wrote in a post to X. "Sent other people to die for him, much as he’s doing as president."

Roy Bellamy, a senior podcast producer, posted a "reminder" in reaction to Trump's message, sharing a screenshot of an older article from The Atlantic, which reported that the president considered those who died in war to be "suckers" and "losers."
