The City of Boerne is set to host a series of summer events that highlight its German and European heritage, providing residents and visitors with opportunities to engage with the town’s history through festivals, concerts, and tours. The lineup includes the third annual Das Festival of Kendall, free Abendkonzerte evening concerts by the historic Boerne Village Band, and guided tours of the Kuhlmann-King Historical Complex.

According to Tori Bellos, Visit Boerne Marketing Specialist, the events are designed to immerse visitors in the traditions that shaped the community. ‘Boerne’s German and European heritage is woven into so much of what makes our community unique, and Das Festival of Kendall is a lively way to experience that history firsthand,’ Bellos said.

The free three-day Das Festival of Kendall, scheduled for Father’s Day weekend June 19-21, 2026, will transform downtown Boerne’s Main Plaza into a celebration of German culture. The festival features live music, traditional food, local craft vendors, and beer from four Hill Country breweries: Tusculum Brewing Company, Free Roam Brewing Company, 28 Songs Brewhouse + Kitchen, and Cibolo Creek Brewing Co. Family-friendly competitions include officially sanctioned Beer Stein Holding Competitions, with winners advancing to the state championship in New Braunfels. Registration for the Main Street Parade, Dachshund Races, and Das Pageant is open at DasFestival.org. Importantly, the event is a nonprofit that gives back to other nonprofits in Kendall County.

The Boerne Village Band, recognized as the oldest continuously playing German band outside Germany, will perform free Abendkonzerte evening concerts on Main Plaza on June 16, June 30, and July 28 from 7:30 pm to 9 pm. Established in 1860 by Dr. Karl Dienger, the band preserves musical traditions, inviting attendees to bring lawn chairs or blankets and join in dances like the Herr Schmidt and Chicken Dance.

History enthusiasts can explore the Kuhlmann-King Historical Complex, a home dating to the 1880s, through guided tours on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month. The tours highlight the historic kitchen, original architecture, and interpretive markers telling the story of German settlers.

Visitors interested in genealogy can visit The Family History Place, a research center operated by the Genealogical Society of Kendall County. It offers free access to premium databases like Ancestry.com, Fold3, and My Heritage through a partnership with FamilySearch.

Boerne’s summer events provide a reason for an overnight stay, with lodging options such as The Bevy Hotel and The Kendall within walking distance of the Hill Country Mile. For more information, visit VisitBoerne.org.
