PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir said the emergence of two new political parties will have no bearing on the coalition’s chances in the upcoming elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.
Zambry said BN was well prepared for the impending polls, Bernama reported.
“Johor Umno and BN have prepared extensively, and I believe the formation of a new party will have no impact on BN,” he was quoted as saying.
Zambry was asked if Parti Bersama Malaysia and Parti Wawasan Negara, led by former federal ministers, would pose a challenge to BN.
Bersama was taken over by former PKR leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, while Wawasan is led by former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin.
The Election Commission has set July 11 and Aug 1 as polling days for the 16th Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, respectively.
Johor BN and Bersama had previously said they would contest all 56 state seats. Wawasan has yet to announce if it is taking part in the polls.
