Bersatu prepared to fight PAS ‘on all fronts’, says Muhyiddin

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the party was prepared to go all out against PAS, which recently severed ties with them.

“If they have made their decision, we are ready to fight on all fronts,” he said when asked if he wanted to see the two parties go their separate ways.

Muhyiddin was speaking to reporters after chairing the party’s Supreme Council meeting at its headquarters here tonight.

Last week, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said his party was obligated to cut ties with Bersatu as the latter had become power-hungry and did not prioritise Malay-Muslim unity.

Muhyiddin also said Bersatu would contest under the Perikatan Nasional banner in the impending Johor and Negeri Sembilan polls.

“We will stand firm on this position as we helped found PN.”

Muhyiddin had earlier said that the party would remain in PN, citing the coalition’s “strong brand”.

Muhyiddin went on to claim that PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar had yet to call for a meeting to discuss the coalition’s preparations for the state elections.

He said, previously, PN would meet to discuss preparations for any by-election.

“Such meetings are critical. But now it is a free-for-all,” he said, alluding to seat negotiations.

The Johor election is fixed for July 11 while that for Negeri Sembilan will be held on Aug 1.
