PN information chief Annuar Musa said it is premature to speculate on using a different logo or expelling Bersatu before PN’s Supreme Council meeting is held.
PETALING JAYA: The Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council will decide on the use of the coalition’s logo and seat allocations for the Johor and Negeri Sembilan elections at a meeting on Monday, says its information chief, Annuar Musa.
He said only the PN chairman has the authority to issue and sign the letters of appointment (watikah) for candidates contesting under the coalition’s logo, while seat allocations can only be finalised by the Supreme Council.
“It is not appropriate to be firing shots here and there, and making all sorts of assumptions about running under a different flag or dropping Bersatu before the meeting has even taken place,” Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying after a Kelantan City FC event in Kota Bharu.
Annuar also dismissed speculation that Bersatu was on the verge of removal from PN, saying no proposal to expel the party had been tabled.
“As Tok Guru, the president (Abdul Hadi Awang) said, if Bersatu wants to stay, they can stay in PN. There is no question of expelling them. As long as they don’t break the rules,” he said.
Turmoil in PN grew after PAS severed political ties with Bersatu.
Despite the split, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has maintained that his party will remain in PN and contest the Johor and Negeri Sembilan polls under the coalition’s logo.
He also insisted that no party could unilaterally remove Bersatu from PN, as any decision must be based on consensus, in line with the coalition’s constitution.
