Perlis govt appoints PAS coordinators for Chuping, Bintong and Guar Sanji

PETALING JAYA: The Perlis government led by menteri besar Abu Bakar Hamzah has appointed representatives from PAS as coordinators in three state constituencies previously held by the party: Chuping, Bintong, and Guar Sanji.

Perlis PAS, expressing appreciation to the state government, said the appointments in the three constituencies would help strengthen ties between the leadership and the people while improving the effectiveness of grassroots service delivery.

The three coordinators – Aziz Ahmad (Chuping), Jamil Kamis (Bintong), and Ahmad Adnan Fadzil (Guar Sanji) – received their appointment letters from Abu Bakar at his official residence on Saturday.

“Perlis PAS would also like to record its appreciation and gratitude to the Perlis government for the trust placed in these three individuals to take on the responsibility,” the party said in a Facebook post.

In February, Abu Bakar confirmed that he had received Perlis PAS’s request to appoint coordinators for the three constituencies.

However, the state executive council instead decided to appoint village heads to oversee the menteri besar service centres in those areas.

PAS had nominated ex-menteri besar and Sanglang assemblyman Shukri Ramli as coordinator for Guar Sanji to replace former assemblyman Ridzuan Hashim; Santan assemblyman Azmir Azizan as coordinator for Chuping; and Kayang assemblyman Asrul Aimran Abd Jalil for Bintong.

PAS previously said that it would not accept any positions in the state government led by Abu Bakar of Bersatu.

On Dec 24, PAS immediately terminated the memberships of its assemblymen Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong), and Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji) after they, together with five Bersatu assemblymen, signed statutory declarations withdrawing support for Shukri.

The Perlis state assembly submitted notices of vacancy for the three seats to the state office of the Election Commission (EC) on Dec 29.

However, EC chairman Ramlan Harun said no by-elections would be held after the Perlis assembly withdrew the vacancy notifications on Dec 31.

State assembly speaker Rus’sele Eizan said that although no by-elections would be held, the three seats would remain vacant until the 16th general election, taking into account PAS’s assurance that it remains committed to preserving the stability of the Perlis government.
