Reservoir, an agricultural innovation center and venture capital fund, announced today the acquisition of Contain, Inc., an agriculture finance and data platform, marking the firm’s first acquisition. As part of the deal, Nicola Kerslake has joined Reservoir as a general partner, where she will chair the investment committee and lead due diligence and underwriting functions. Terms were not disclosed.
The acquisition adds a new layer to Reservoir’s value creation model for startups, combining Contain’s marketplace, underwriting, financing experience, and market intelligence capabilities. This expansion is designed to help startups move from pilot to commercial scale more effectively, particularly those in the rugged Physical AI space serving high-value crops.
“By integrating Contain’s platform, we can provide startups with not only capital but also critical data and financing tools to de-risk and accelerate their path to market,” said a Reservoir spokesperson. Kerslake’s background in agricultural finance and data analytics is expected to strengthen Reservoir’s investment committee and underwriting processes.
Reservoir operates on-farm robotics innovation centers, known as Reservoir Farms, starting in California’s Salinas Valley and expanding to other key regions across the American West. The firm backs startups solving real problems in high-value crops and the rugged Physical AI stack, combining R&D space, hands-on grower input, and early-stage capital.
The acquisition comes at a time when AgTech startups face challenges in scaling from pilot projects to commercial deployment, particularly in capital-intensive areas like robotics and AI for specialty crops. By offering a more integrated suite of resources—including data-driven underwriting and marketplace access—Reservoir aims to reduce barriers to adoption for growers.
“This move positions Reservoir to better serve the entire lifecycle of an AgTech startup, from ideation to commercial-scale deployment,” the spokesperson added. For more information about Reservoir, visit https://reservoir.co.
