Soft power moves to the fore

Sheikh Salem bin Khaled Al Qassimi, the UAE Minister of Culture and chair of the UAE National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, met Tanzania’s ambassador to France, Saidi Yakubu, at the Tanzanian Embassy in Paris.

During the talks, both sides committed to deepen cooperation across diplomacy, culture, education, science and world heritage, with a clear emphasis on institutional links.

The two officials agreed to strengthen collaboration between relevant institutions in both countries to promote people-to-people relations. They also highlighted joint work to preserve and promote cultural heritage and to enhance contributions to peace, mutual understanding and global development.

Ambassador Yakubu underlined that Tanzania and the UAE enjoy close relations grounded in mutual respect, economic cooperation and a shared vision for sustainable development.

This soft-power push comes as political, economic and social ties between Tanzania and the UAE continue to grow, driven by engagement from both governments. For investors, such signalling often precedes more predictable policy frameworks and a more stable environment for cross-border projects in tourism, education and creative sectors.

From economic ties to structured cultural partnership

Tanzania has welcomed rising Gulf investment in sectors such as infrastructure, ports and energy, while the UAE has positioned itself as a key partner in East Africa’s growth story. Against this backdrop, the move to formalise cultural and diplomatic cooperation suggests a desire to anchor these gains in longer-term, people-centred links.

Institutional cooperation on education and science can support joint research programmes, academic exchanges and skills development. Heritage and culture agreements, meanwhile, tend to underpin tourism promotion, museum partnerships and preservation projects that can attract both visitors and catalytic funding.

As relations widen, Tanzania UAE ties are likely to touch creative industries, film and media, and cultural festivals, all of which draw private capital once regulatory signals look stable.
