Putrajaya earmarks RM216mil to improve housing, public wellbeing in Johor

PETALING JAYA: The housing and local government ministry has allocated RM216.44 million to Johor to boost housing development, public amenities and community welfare.

Its minister, Nga Kor Ming, said the funds, allocated under the first rolling plan of the 13th Malaysia Plan, cover affordable housing projects, the maintenance of stratified housing, public amenities, community safety, solid waste management, and urban and rural development.

“This RM216.44 million allocation proves the Madani government’s continuous commitment to ensuring Johor’s people enjoy access to quality housing, comfortable public amenities, and a more sustainable and prosperous living environment.

“For example, Flat Taman Ungku Tun Aminah is 41 years old and is the largest flat complex in Johor, with over 80 blocks.

“Today, we are beginning renovation work on the first 10 blocks through our community outreach programme,” Bernama reported him as saying at his ministry’s programme at Flat Taman Ungku Tun Aminah in Skudai today.

Nga, who is also DAP deputy national chairman, said most of the funds would be used to advance the public housing agenda through various initiatives.

These include Rumah Malaysia, the People’s Housing Project, the People’s Residency Programme, and the Madani Inclusive Housing Development initiative.

The funds will also be used to upgrade residential areas and public infrastructure, including markets, drainage systems, public toilets, recreational parks and fire stations.
