TLDR

  • Breez lets users send USDC or USDT directly from Bitcoin balances.

  • The feature supports stablecoin payments across over 30 blockchains.

  • Users keep Bitcoin until payment conversion happens during settlement.

  • Developers can add stablecoin payouts without multi-chain builds.

  • Breez plans future support for receiving stablecoins from outside chains.

Breez has launched a Bitcoin-to-stablecoin payment feature that lets users send USDC or USDT from Bitcoin balances. The feature works through its developer SDK and supports payments across more than 30 blockchain networks. It gives apps a simpler way to offer stablecoin payouts without asking users to hold stablecoins.

Breez Adds USDC Payments From Bitcoin Balances

Breez built the feature into its SDK, which developers use to add Lightning payments to applications. The system lets users start payments from Bitcoin balances and send value to USDC recipients. As a result, users avoid holding separate USDC balances before making payments.

The SDK checks the recipient address and identifies the destination blockchain before payment confirmation. It then calculates the route, fees, amount and network for the sender. After confirmation, liquidity providers convert Bitcoin into USDC and deliver it to the recipient.

Breez uses the Lightning Network and its Spark Layer 2 system for fast settlement. The company also relies on partners, including Flashnet and Boltz, for conversion and delivery. Developers can support USDC payments without building separate blockchain integrations.

Breez Expands USDT Payment Support Across Chains

Breez also supports USDT delivery from Bitcoin balances through the same payment flow. The sender keeps Bitcoin until the payment starts, while the recipient receives USDT. This structure removes the need for users to manage stablecoin wallets before sending funds.

The feature initially supports outbound stablecoin payments only, according to the company’s rollout. However, Breez plans to add stablecoin receiving from external blockchain networks later. That step could expand the SDK into a broader multi-asset payment layer.

USDT remains important in many remittance corridors because users often prefer dollar-linked payments. Different regions also use different blockchains because fees and exchange access vary. Breez’s 30-chain coverage gives developers more flexibility across markets.

Bitcoin Payment Infrastructure Gains More Utility

The launch adds more stablecoin functions to Bitcoin payment infrastructure and Lightning-based applications. Breez already serves more than 75 apps through its SDK, including Deblock and Cake Wallet. That existing base gives the new feature immediate reach across wallet and payment products.

The company raised $4.5 million in December 2022 from investors including Fulgur Ventures and Ego Death Capital. Since then, Breez has focused on Lightning tools for wallets, social apps, and payment platforms. Its latest feature extends that strategy into stablecoin delivery and remittance use cases.

The wider Bitcoin payments market has also moved beyond small retail transactions. In February, Secure Digital Markets completed a $1 million Lightning payment to Kraken in under half a second. Voltage introduced a dollar-settled credit line linked to Lightning payment flows.
