Sarawak, Brunei police strengthen cooperation to tackle cross-border security challenges

MIRI, July 1 — Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah led a delegation from the Sarawak Police Contingent to a bilateral relations meeting with the Royal Brunei Police Force (PPDB) at its headquarters in Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday. 

The Sarawak delegation comprised senior officers, including Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak; Sarawak Police Contingent Head of the Management Department SAC Zulkipli Suhaili; Head of the Internal Security and Public Order Department SAC Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood; Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) Commander SAC Lim Bak Phai; Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 Commander ACP Ab Rahman Mat Hasan; Sarawak Air Operations Force Base Commander ACP Faizul Mohammad; as well as the district police chiefs of Miri, Limbang and Lawas.

Meanwhile, the PPDB delegation was led by Brunei Police Commissioner Dato Seri Pahlawan Sulaiman Alidin, accompanied by his deputy Pengiran Anak Mohamad Saifullah Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Idris, along with the force’s top leadership.

Miri District Police, in statement posted on its Facebook page, said the meeting provided a strategic platform to further strengthen professional ties and close cooperation between the two police forces in addressing increasingly complex cross-border security challenges.

“Key areas discussed included enhancing intelligence sharing, improving communication coordination, implementing joint operations, cooperation in search and rescue (SAR) missions, strengthening maritime security, combating maritime crime, and coordinating procedures for the transfer of detainees between Malaysia and Brunei,” it said.

It added that during the meeting, the Brunei Police Commissioner presented letters of appreciation to the Miri and Limbang district police chiefs for their swift action and close collaboration in helping to resolve criminal cases involving the arrest of suspects who had fled from Brunei.

“The meeting not only achieved its intended objectives but also served to further consolidate strategic relations between the Sarawak Police Contingent and PPDB.

“The continued spirit of cooperation is expected to enhance law enforcement efforts, strengthen border security and ensure peace and well-being for communities in both countries,” it said. — The Borneo Post
