KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — Rapid KL said today that a thin external wire caught in the Kelana Jaya LRT Line’s power supply system caused a sound described as a “small explosion” that prompted a train to be withdrawn from service, adding that no one was injured and operations continued as normal.

The incident occurred at 7.18pm yesterday, when Train No. 57 was at Taman Jaya station heading towards Putra Heights, the rail operator said in a statement.

As a safety precaution, the train was immediately taken out of service and passengers were safely disembarked at the next station before continuing their journeys on another train.

Initial inspections found no damage to the train or its components.

Checks on the track between Universiti and Taman Jaya stations also found the infrastructure to be in good condition and safe for operations.

A more detailed inspection was carried out after service hours.

The operator said investigators found that a thin wire, which was not part of either the train or the railway infrastructure, had melted at the scene.

“The wire is believed to have become entangled with the power supply system, causing the small explosion-like sound,” Rapid KL said.

Rapid KL said it would continue investigating the incident and implement appropriate preventive measures to avoid a recurrence.

Passengers have been advised to refer to Rapid KL’s social media channels or the MyRapid PULSE app for the latest updates on Kelana Jaya Line services.
