KLUANG: Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the Mengkibol seat in the Johor state election, Chu Poh Yee, is campaigning on a three-pronged strategy centred on infrastructure upgrades, economic empowerment, and community welfare.
Chu, the Kluang DAP Youth chief, said improving road conditions and expanding community farming initiatives through urban agriculture projects would be among her priorities if elected on July 11.
She said Kluang’s business ecosystem has strong potential for growth and could be strengthened by creating more opportunities for entrepreneurs and generating quality jobs to reduce youth migration.
“Kluang’s economy is on the right track, and creative tourism events such as the Kluang Rail Festival have proven capable of generating positive spillover benefits for the local community,” the lawyer told Bernama.
She also pledged to strengthen women’s participation in the workforce by advocating a more balanced work environment that enables them to manage both their careers and family responsibilities.
She said she plans to provide working parents with well-equipped childcare centres.
Mengkibol is one of the 14 constituencies that will see a straight fight in the Johor state polls, with Chu taking on Barisan Nasional’s Yap Zhi Peng.
