Dumuloc dam to help 1,484 farmers
BUGALLON, Pangasinan — Nearly 1,500 farmers in Bugallon, Pangasinan will have year-round irrigation once the Dumuloc Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) is completed.
Top officials of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) inspected the progress of the project, expected to provide a stable water supply to about 1,632 hectares of farmland across nine villages, helping 1,484 farmers increase crop production during both the wet and dry planting seasons.
Senior Deputy Administrator Robert C. Suguitan and Officer-in-Charge Deputy Administrator for Engineering and Operations Reyne B. Ugay led the inspection over the weekend to ensure the project is on schedule and complies with engineering standards.
According to NIA Region 1 Regional Manager Geffrey B. Catulin, the project includes an earthfill dam that will augment water supply to existing irrigation systems serving farming communities in Bugallon. He said the project forms part of NIA’s long-term effort to improve irrigation infrastructure and water distribution in Pangasinan.
NIA said regular inspections will continue to ensure the project’s timely and quality completion, with the agency aiming to deliver dependable irrigation services that will boost farm productivity and strengthen food security. — Artemio A. Dumlao
