House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) is harassing a Virginia prosecutor by dragging her into a closed-door deposition—and she's refusing to go quietly, according to a new report.

Parisa Dehghani-Tafti, the top prosecutor for Arlington County and Falls Church, is calling out Jordan for subpoenaing her to answer questions about her handling of a protest case involving Donald Trump adviser Stephen Miller's home, PunchUp reported Thursday. The catch: Jordan is insisting the deposition happen behind closed doors, despite the prosecutor's repeated offers to answer every question publicly.

According to PunchUp’s Tom Latchem, last September, a retired peace studies professor chalked slogans and handed out flyers near Miller's house. Afterward, Miller's wife, Katie, quickly ran straight to Fox News, claiming her family was being "doxxed" and endangered.

That has led the Ohio Republican to investigate the prosecutor's office for what was essentially a nuisance complaint that was not backed up by the local police.

According to Latchem, "On July 1, he [Jordan] served Dehghani-Tafti with a subpoena compelling her to appear at a deposition—behind closed doors—on July 16. And her camp is livid about the way he’s doing it."

"It is disappointing that the Committee is compelling my attendance to a closed-door interview when they know I agreed to appear in an open, public hearing to discuss my office's work and my concerns about the Committee's authority to question it," Dehghani-Tafti told PunchUp. "I have tried everything I could for this matter to be resolved in the light of day, with the transparency the community deserves. I don't know why the Committee is afraid to speak with me in the open."

The report notes that in Jordan's letter, "He claims that on the evening of June 29—hours before a scheduled June 30 sit-down—the prosecutor’s lawyer called to say she had 'reneged' on an agreement to appear for a voluntary transcribed interview. Because of that, the letter says the committee had no choice but to resort to 'compulsory process.'"

Dehghani-Tafti's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, called the letter nonsensical and claimed no agreement exists for a closed-door deposition before insisting, Jordan and his associates are "too afraid of the answers Ms. Dehghani-Tafti will give before an open and public hearing.”
