Banting school stabbing suspect to undergo psychiatric evaluation

PETALING JAYA: The 15-year-old girl accused of stabbing a student at a secondary school in Banting has been ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation and treatment for a month at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak.
Kosmo reported that magistrate Maslinda Selamat issued the order after the charge was read to the suspect in the Telok Datok magistrates’ court in Kuala Langat, which sat in closed proceedings as a children’s court today.
No plea was recorded from the suspect. The court was informed that she has autism.
The girl is accused of stabbing a schoolgirl her age with a knife with intent to cause death at the secondary school in Banting at 9.50am on Monday.
The charge was framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which provides for up to 20 years’ imprisonment upon conviction.
The accused’s counsel requested that she undergo a psychiatric evaluation, and deputy public prosecutor Amirul Syafiq Yazid did not object.
The court allowed the request and fixed Aug 11 for remention of the case.
