Perpetual DEX Trading Volume Soars to $12.09 Trillion in 2025, Fueled by Rapid Growth in H2

  • Perpetual DEXs see explosive growth, surpassing $12 trillion in 2025.
  • Second half of 2025 drives massive volume surge in perpetuals.
  • Hyperliquid faces rising competition as Aster and Lighter grow rapidly.

The perpetual DEX (decentralized exchange) market has experienced an unprecedented surge in 2025, with cumulative trading volume hitting an eye-popping $12.09 trillion. This figure represents a remarkable jump from the $4.1 trillion recorded at the start of the year. According to data from DefiLlama, a substantial $7.9 trillion of that total came in 2025 alone, accounting for 65% of the entire lifetime volume of perpetual DEXs. This sharp increase highlights the accelerated adoption of onchain derivatives in the past year.

The surge in activity was particularly pronounced in the second half of the year. Perpetual trading volume reached a record $1 trillion in December, continuing the upward momentum that began in October. For the first half of 2025, total trading volume was around $2.1 trillion, while the second half saw an explosive increase to approximately $5.74 trillion, accounting for 73% of the year’s total. This marked a notable shift as perpetual DEXs gained traction as primary venues for leveraged crypto trading.

Explosive Growth of Perpetual DEXs in 2025

The rapid rise of perpetual DEXs began around 2021, with platforms like dYdX and Perpetual Protocol leading the charge. However, the sector’s growth truly gained momentum in 2023, with the emergence of Hyperliquid marking a significant turning point. By 2025, perpetual DEXs had absorbed a significant share of leveraged trading, as traditional centralized exchanges saw their dominance in this space start to wane.

The second half of 2025 witnessed a dramatic acceleration in trading activity, especially in Q4 when monthly volumes regularly surpassed $1 trillion. Liquidity depth and improved execution played a crucial role in this expansion, with perpetual DEXs increasingly positioning themselves as primary platforms for leveraged crypto trading.

Hyperliquid’s Market Dominance Challenged

Hyperliquid, the dominant player in the perpetual DEX space for much of 2025, faced increasing competition as the year progressed. While its volumes consistently ranged between $175 billion and $248 billion during the first half of the year, rival platforms such as Aster and Lighter saw a surge in activity from mid-2025 onward. By Q3, Lighter’s monthly volumes had climbed above $100 billion, signaling significant trader adoption.

The most significant challenge to Hyperliquid’s dominance came in the fourth quarter. Aster, in particular, experienced explosive growth, with monthly volumes reaching $259 billion in both October and November. This shift in market dynamics suggests a move toward a more competitive, multi-venue ecosystem, where no single platform holds a commanding share of the market.

The post Why The Green Bay Packers Must Take The Cleveland Browns Seriously — As Hard As That Might Be appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers are off to a 2-0 start. Getty Images The Green Bay Packers are, once again, one of the NFL’s better teams. The Cleveland Browns are, once again, one of the league’s doormats. It’s why unbeaten Green Bay (2-0) is a 8-point favorite at winless Cleveland (0-2) Sunday according to betmgm.com. The money line is also Green Bay -500. Most expect this to be a Packers’ rout, and it very well could be. But Green Bay knows taking anyone in this league for granted can prove costly. “I think if you look at their roster, the paper, who they have on that team, what they can do, they got a lot of talent and things can turn around quickly for them,” Packers safety Xavier McKinney said. “We just got to kind of keep that in mind and know we not just walking into something and they just going to lay down. That’s not what they going to do.” The Browns certainly haven’t laid down on defense. Far from. Cleveland is allowing an NFL-best 191.5 yards per game. The Browns gave up 141 yards to Cincinnati in Week 1, including just seven in the second half, but still lost, 17-16. Cleveland has given up an NFL-best 45.5 rushing yards per game and just 2.1 rushing yards per attempt. “The biggest thing is our defensive line is much, much improved over last year and I think we’ve got back to our personality,” defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz said recently. “When we play our best, our D-line leads us there as our engine.” The Browns rank third in the league in passing defense, allowing just 146.0 yards per game. Cleveland has also gone 30 straight games without allowing a 300-yard passer, the longest active streak in the NFL.…
