PANews reported on January 4th that Delphi Digital announced Solana plans to launch a major consensus mechanism upgrade, "Alpenglow," in phases from early to mid-2026. This upgrade will replace the existing Tower BFT and Proof-of-History (PoH) mechanisms, achieving a finalization time of 100-150 milliseconds, approximately 100 times faster than the original 12.8 seconds. The new architecture introduces two main components: Votor, through a lightweight voting aggregation model, allows blocks to reach finality in one to two rounds of confirmation; Rotor restructures the block propagation mechanism, employing a stake-weighted relay path, achieving a propagation latency as low as 18 milliseconds under sufficient bandwidth.
