Ledger customers’ data leaked through Global-e processor breach. Names and contact info exposed in latest security incident.

Hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger is dealing with another security incident.

On January 5, blockchain investigator ZachXBT alerted the crypto community to a data breach involving payment processor Global-e.

The breach exposed customer names and contact information. According to ZachXBT, Ledger customers began receiving notification emails from Global-e earlier that day.

Global-e’s official statement outlined the incident timeline. The company detected unusual activity on its networks recently. Their security team identified irregularities in cloud systems and acted immediately.

The payment processor engaged independent forensic experts to investigate the breach.

Customer Data Compromised in Security Incident

The unauthorized access affected personal information stored on Global-e’s systems. Exposed data includes customer names and various contact details.

ZachXBT shared the incident through his personal channel.

Community discussions quickly highlighted concerns about targeted phishing attacks. Hardware wallet users face heightened risks following such data leaks.

Global-e confirmed the incident is now contained. Forensic investigation continues to determine the full scope of the breach.

Ledger’s History of Data Security Challenges

This marks another chapter in Ledger’s security struggles.

The company experienced a major breach in 2020 through Shopify. That incident leaked over one million customer email addresses.

A third-party compromise occurred in 2023, adding to security concerns. Each breach increases vulnerability to social engineering attacks targeting crypto holders.

User reactions on social media reveal growing frustration. Several customers mentioned considering alternatives. The recurring incidents underscore ongoing challenges in protecting customer privacy.

ZachXBT’s alert emphasizes the importance of vigilance.

Ledger customers should remain cautious about suspicious emails and phishing attempts. The breach demonstrates how third-party processors can create security vulnerabilities.

Global-e maintains the situation is under control. However, the incident raises questions about data protection practices across the cryptocurrency hardware industry.
