President Donald Trump expressed his displeasure over not being selected as the Nobel Peace Prize winner last year and linked it to his threats to take control of Greenland, in a letter sent to Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere over the weekend, according to multiple reports.

According to both Bloomberg and Reuters, in his letter to the Norwegian leader, Trump wrote: “Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace.”
“Although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America,” the letter said.
The President then bashed Denmark, saying it cannot protect Greenland from Russia or China, and questioned its claim over the Arctic territory, saying: “There are no written documents; it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also.”
Trump ends the letter saying: “The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.”
According to PBS Newshour’s Nick Schifrin, who first reported on the matter, the letter has been forwarded by the National Security Council staff to multiple European ambassadors in Washington.

Trump and the White House have not yet publicly commented on the report, but in a Truth Social post on Sunday night, the president wrote: “NATO has been telling Denmark, for 20 years, that ‘you have to get the Russian threat away from Greenland.’ Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time, and it will be done!!!” The post didn’t include any additional details on what Trump intends to do.
How Has The Norwegian Leader Responded?
In a statement shared with Bloomberg, Stoere noted that his government has no role in determining the Nobel Peace Prize winner. “Regarding the Nobel Peace Prize, I have several times clearly explained to Trump what is well known, namely that it is an independent Nobel Committee, and not the Norwegian government, that awards the prize,” he said.
What Do We Know About Trump’s Tariffs Over Greeneland?
On Saturday, President Donald Trump announced he will impose a 10% tariff on eight European countries who have recently deployed military personnel in Greenland following his threat to take over the Arctic territory. In a post announcing the decision on Truth Social, Trump said Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland will be impacted and the levy will go into effect on February 1. The sweeping tariff covers all exports and will increase to 25% in June and remain in effect until the U.S. takes control of Greenland. Leaders from across the European Union gathered to meet on Sunday and reports suggested that a so-called “trade bazooka” or Anti-Coercion Instrument was discussed. This would be the most powerful retaliatory tool in the EU’s arsenal and it could be used to target major U.S. service exports, with U.S. tech giants being majorly impacted. The New York Times, however, reported on Monday that the bloc is still pushing for negotiation rather than all out retaliation at first.
