Forbes Releases Annual Global 50 Over 50 List, Celebrating Women Defying Age And Gender Barriers

MIKY LEE BY MARK SELIGER/AUGUST

NEW YORK, NY – January 21, 2026 – Today, Forbes has unveiled its 2026 Global 50 Over 50 list in partnership with Know Your Value and its founder Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MS NOW’s Morning Joe. Now in its sixth year, the franchise recognizes 50 women who are not only accomplished leaders, but who are making their most significant professional impact after the age of 50 around the world.

The women on the 2026 50 Over 50 Global list hail from 36 countries and territories across six continents, reflecting the truly international scope of influence women are wielding later in their careers. Collectively, they are leaving their marks on every sector of the global economy—from aviation and architecture to finance, fashion, food, mining, technology and public service. Several have broken barriers to become “the first” in their roles; others have built or reinvented businesses, invented technologies and medical therapies, or led cultural and societal change that stands to affect millions of lives. All exemplify resilience and reinvention in an ever-changing global environment.

This year’s list includes globally recognized figures such as Penélope Cruz, the Oscar-winning Spanish actor whose career has spanned four decades; Charlotte Tilbury, founder of Charlotte Tilbury Beauty and one of the most influential entrepreneurs in global cosmetics; and Gisèle Pelicot, whose decision to publicly confront violence against women helped catalyze national debate and legal reform in France.

Alongside these household names, this year’s list features powerful women whose leadership and initiatives are driving meaningful change across society, including the Prime Ministers of Japan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo Sanae Takaichi and Judith Suminwa, Ladidi Kuluwa Bako-Aiyegbusi, Director-Head, Nutrition Department, Nigeria Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and Cheryl Pearce, Major General, Deputy Military Adviser for Peacekeeping Operations, UN.

“The 2026 50 Over 50 list reflects the extraordinary breadth of influence women are having around the world,” says Maggie McGrath, Editor, ForbesWomen. “Where they differ in sector focus and geographic origin, what unites the women on this list is a willingness to apply their well-earned wisdom and experience to some of the most complex challenges of our time. What unites them is not a single sector or geography, but a willingness to apply decades of experience to some of the most complex challenges of our time — proving that impact, leadership and innovation can only deepen with age.”

Produced in partnership with Mika Brzezinski’s Know Your Value, Brzezinski will share more on this year’s 50 Over 50 list Thursday morning during Morning Joe on MS NOW.

In 2026, Forbes and Know Your Value will host the fifth annual 30/50 Summit in Abu Dhabi coinciding with International Women’s Day, featuring the women from the Forbes 50 Over 50 and 30 Under 30 lists. The immersive event, led by Mika Brzezinski, Huma Abedin and Maggie McGrath, will bring together female leaders from both communities for the opportunity to forge cross-generational alliances and share guidance and insights to women at every stage of their career, while also offering a programme of rich cultural exchange.

The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For

The post The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Visions of future technology are often prescient about the broad strokes while flubbing the details. The tablets in “2001: A Space Odyssey” do indeed look like iPads, but you never see the astronauts paying for subscriptions or wasting hours on Candy Crush.  Channel factories are one vision that arose early in the history of the Lightning Network to address some challenges that Lightning has faced from the beginning. Despite having grown to become Bitcoin’s most successful layer-2 scaling solution, with instant and low-fee payments, Lightning’s scale is limited by its reliance on payment channels. Although Lightning shifts most transactions off-chain, each payment channel still requires an on-chain transaction to open and (usually) another to close. As adoption grows, pressure on the blockchain grows with it. The need for a more scalable approach to managing channels is clear. Channel factories were supposed to meet this need, but where are they? In 2025, subnetworks are emerging that revive the impetus of channel factories with some new details that vastly increase their potential. They are natively interoperable with Lightning and achieve greater scale by allowing a group of participants to open a shared multisig UTXO and create multiple bilateral channels, which reduces the number of on-chain transactions and improves capital efficiency. Achieving greater scale by reducing complexity, Ark and Spark perform the same function as traditional channel factories with new designs and additional capabilities based on shared UTXOs.  Channel Factories 101 Channel factories have been around since the inception of Lightning. A factory is a multiparty contract where multiple users (not just two, as in a Dryja-Poon channel) cooperatively lock funds in a single multisig UTXO. They can open, close and update channels off-chain without updating the blockchain for each operation. Only when participants leave or the factory dissolves is an on-chain transaction…
