PANews reported on February 3rd that, according to Cointelegraph, stablecoin issuer Tether announced a partnership with the browser Opera to expand support for USDT and Tether Gold (XAUT) in its Celo blockchain-based self-custodied wallet, MiniPay. This move aims to provide millions of users in emerging markets such as Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia with a stable, dollar-based store of value and payment channel.

MiniPay claims to be available in 60 countries, with 12.6 million active wallets and having processed 350 million transactions. Its user base grew by 50% in the fourth quarter of last year, primarily driven by growth in emerging markets.
