Bankwell Opens Brooklyn Office to Expand Commercial and Private Client Banking Presence in New York

Bankwell Financial Group, Inc. , the parent company of Bankwell Bank, announced the opening of its Brooklyn office in the Bay Ridge neighborhood, expanding the bank’s commercial and private client banking presence into New York City. The office officially opened on February 20, 2026, and is located at 557–559 86th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11209.

The Bay Ridge office represents Bankwell’s first full‑service location in New York State and supports the bank’s continued focus on serving closely held businesses, their owners, and professionals in key markets.

The Brooklyn office is home to an experienced private client banking team that joined Bankwell in 2025, led by Monika Buono, Private Client Group Director. The team has deep local market expertise, building on the foundation established by Monika and her late colleague, Zoe Koutsoupakis, who served alongside her in leading the private client group at prior institutions and is remembered fondly for her professionalism, dedication, and lasting impact on clients and community. The team provides their corporate clients and individuals with a dedicated single point of contact and access to tailored commercial banking, lending, and treasury management solutions.

“Brooklyn is a dynamic business environment with a strong base of entrepreneurs, family‑owned companies, and commercial real estate operators,” said Konstantin Grinberg, Head of Private Client Banking. “Establishing a Brooklyn office allows us to support our private client team locally and deliver responsive, relationship‑driven banking solutions to clients throughout the borough and greater New York market.”

While this marks Bankwell’s first full‑service New York location, the bank has previously maintained a limited‑service, non‑deposit office (Domestic Representative Office (DRO)) in Garden City, Long Island, supporting commercial and lending relationships in the region. The Brooklyn office enables Bankwell to deliver its full suite of commercial and private client banking services on the ground in New York.

Services provided through the Bay Ridge office include commercial lending, owner‑occupied and investment real estate financing, SBA lending, treasury management, and deposit solutions for businesses and individuals.

The Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 25 basis points, and Powell said this was a risk management cut

PANews reported on September 18th, according to the Securities Times, that at 2:00 AM Beijing time on September 18th, the Federal Reserve announced a 25 basis point interest rate cut, lowering the federal funds rate from 4.25%-4.50% to 4.00%-4.25%, in line with market expectations. The Fed's interest rate announcement triggered a sharp market reaction, with the three major US stock indices rising briefly before quickly plunging. The US dollar index plummeted, briefly hitting a new low since 2025, before rebounding sharply, turning a decline into an upward trend. The sharp market volatility was closely tied to the subsequent monetary policy press conference held by Federal Reserve Chairman Powell. He stated that the 50 basis point rate cut lacked broad support and that there was no need for a swift adjustment. Today's move could be viewed as a risk-management cut, suggesting the Fed will not enter a sustained cycle of rate cuts. Powell reiterated the Fed's unwavering commitment to maintaining its independence. Market participants are currently unaware of the risks to the Fed's independence. The latest published interest rate dot plot shows that the median expectation of Fed officials is to cut interest rates twice more this year (by 25 basis points each), one more than predicted in June this year. At the same time, Fed officials expect that after three rate cuts this year, there will be another 25 basis point cut in 2026 and 2027.
