In celebration of Women’s Month, Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) presents “Real Life Conversations with Her (RLC with Her),” bringing together four inspiring women: Rizalina Mantaring, retiree and former CEO of Sun Life Philippines; Macy Castillo, founder and CEO of Enstack; Atty. Macel Estavillo, chief legal officer of JG Summit Holdings; and Yuka Mariz Umali, legal assistant at RLC— each representing a unique stage in their professional journey.

The conversation captures candid exchanges between seasoned leaders and younger professionals as they reflect on the paths that shaped them. Though they come from different generations, their common ground surfaces naturally, effectively bridging the gap through shared values, defining turning points, and the quiet discipline behind their success.

RLC with Her offers perspectives on how women move forward in their careers; through choices, pivots, and lessons that rarely make it into the spotlight. Robinsons Land frames these as stories of women “becoming”: becoming who they are at the moment, and becoming who they still aspire to be. In that space between beginnings and achievement, there is progress taking shape.

COMMON GROUND. Riza Mantaring, former CEO of Sun Life Philippines and Macy Castillo of Enstack come in different industries but find connection in their leadership styles.

The first conversation pairs Rizalina “Riza” Mantaring, former CEO of Sun Life Philippines and now a retiree and an independent director of many diverse companies, with Macy Castillo, founder and CEO of Enstack. Their backgrounds are different. Riza led one of the country’s major insurance firms, while Macy is building a digital technology platform designed to help entrepreneurs. As their conversation unfolds, they find common ground in how they approached risk, reinvention, and leadership.

Riza defined her journey as “transformative,” describing herself as a programming nerd who had no intention of managing people. She, however, eventually oversaw 20,000 employees as CEO. “When you step outside of your comfort zone, that’s where the magic happens,” she says.

Macy describes her career path as “deliberate.” She began in banking and finance, then moved into tech. By her count, she has helped build four ventures in the e-commerce and fintech worlds. Her latest, Enstack, is billed as an app “empowering everyone to be entrepreneurs,” supporting small business owners as they start and scale.

GUIDANCE MEETS CURIOSITY. The conversation between Macel Estavillo of JG Summit Holdings and Yuka Umali of Robinsons Land unfolds like a mentorship, bridging perspectives between leaders of different generations.

The second conversation pairs Macel Fernandez Estavillo, chief legal officer of JG Summit Holdings, with Yuka Mariz Umali, a fresh graduate who works as a legal assistant at the Office of the Corporate Secretary of Robinsons Land. Their episode is shaped like a mentorship conversation, with experience meeting ambition, and guidance meeting curiosity.

Yuka took political science in college and started out as an intern in Robinsons Land. She aspires to become a lawyer and is still exploring the path she wants to take. She defines progress simply as “consistency in unseen habits.”

Macel shares that even after her stints in government, a private law firm, and now at one of the country’s top conglomerates, she still sees herself as a work in progress. “There are things I am proud of accomplishing, there are things that I worked hard for but I didn’t get. There is still so much I want to do and so much I still want to learn,” she says.

Through “Real Life Conversations with Her,” Robinsons Land wholeheartedly supports all women on their journey of becoming — in the workplace, in business, and in everyday life. Celebrate and make sure to catch highlights from the two lively exchanges when they launch this International Women’s Month, offering a fresh perspective that may inspire you to move with more clarity, courage, and confidence for what’s next. – Rappler.com

Cashing In On University Patents Means Giving Up On Our Innovation Future

The post Cashing In On University Patents Means Giving Up On Our Innovation Future appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. “It’s a raid on American innovation that would deliver pennies to the Treasury while kneecapping the very engine of our economic and medical progress,” writes Pipes. Getty Images Washington is addicted to taxing success. Now, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is floating a plan to skim half the patent earnings from inventions developed at universities with federal funding. It’s being sold as a way to shore up programs like Social Security. In reality, it’s a raid on American innovation that would deliver pennies to the Treasury while kneecapping the very engine of our economic and medical progress. Yes, taxpayer dollars support early-stage research. But the real payoff comes later—in the jobs created, cures discovered, and industries launched when universities and private industry turn those discoveries into real products. By comparison, the sums at stake in patent licensing are trivial. Universities collectively earn only about $3.6 billion annually in patent income—less than the federal government spends on Social Security in a single day. Even confiscating half would barely register against a $6 trillion federal budget. And yet the damage from such a policy would be anything but trivial. The true return on taxpayer investment isn’t in licensing checks sent to Washington, but in the downstream economic activity that federally supported research unleashes. Thanks to the bipartisan Bayh-Dole Act of 1980, universities and private industry have powerful incentives to translate early-stage discoveries into real-world products. Before Bayh-Dole, the government hoarded patents from federally funded research, and fewer than 5% were ever licensed. Once universities could own and license their own inventions, innovation exploded. The result has been one of the best returns on investment in government history. Since 1996, university research has added nearly $2 trillion to U.S. industrial output, supported 6.5 million jobs, and launched more than 19,000 startups. Those companies pay…
