Ripple plans to expand its payments business in Australia through the acquisition of BC Payments Australia Pty Ltd, a move aimed at securing an Australian Financial Services License (AFSL).

The license will allow Ripple to offer regulated payment services to financial institutions, fintech companies, and enterprises operating in the country.

The company said the acquisition remains subject to the standard closing process. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Ripple said,

AFSL License Enables Ripple Payments Expansion

AFSL will allow Ripple to roll out its Ripple Payments platform more broadly across the country.

Ripple Payments is designed to manage the full lifecycle of cross-border transactions. The platform handles onboarding, compliance checks, funding, foreign exchange, liquidity management, and final payout through a single infrastructure layer.

With the license in place, Ripple will be able to directly oversee settlement and connect customers to local payout partners in Australia.

The company claims that this structure removes the need for multiple intermediaries in international transactions. It also allows institutions to access both traditional banking rails and digital assets through a single integration.

According to Ripple, the system improves settlement speed, reduces counterparty risk, and increases transparency in cross-border payments.

Australia a Key APAC Market

Ripple added that Australia is becoming an important hub for its Asia Pacific strategy.

The company reported that payment volume in the APAC region nearly doubled year-over-year in 2025. Growth has been driven by financial institutions upgrading legacy payment infrastructure with blockchain-based systems.

Ripple already works with several Australian companies, including Hai Ha Money Transfer, Novatti Group, Stables, Caleb & Brown, Flash Payments, and Independent Reserve.

The AFSL license would allow Ripple to operate more directly in the market while offering regulated services to local financial institutions.

Notably, Ripple said it currently holds more than 75 regulatory licenses worldwide. This places the firm among the most regulated companies in the digital asset sector.

Recent regulatory approvals include a full Electronic Money Institution license in Luxembourg for operations in the European Union. In late 2025, the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency also granted Ripple conditional approval to pursue a national trust bank charter.
