Married GOP rep's alleged inappropriate letter to young staffer exposed in new report

New details have emerged about the sexual misconduct probe into Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC) — including what sources told Axios was an inappropriate letter he sent to a subordinate.

The 65-year-old married lawmaker, who has faced a number of other controversies, including a bizarre incident in which he banned protesters from McDonald's franchise locations he owns, has already been reported to have been romantically involved with his former deputy chief of staff.

According to Axios, "Three sources told Axios they witnessed conduct by Edwards toward two female staffers in their 20s that they described as inappropriate. The sources said Edwards' behavior crossed professional boundaries and created an uncomfortable work environment. The sources were granted anonymity to protect against retaliation."

One staffer reportedly expressed discomfort at the way Edwards was treating her, but he went all out to shower her with affection.

"Edwards and the woman spent time vacationing together in Las Vegas, months after she had left his office, according to two sources familiar with the trip," said the report. "Axios reviewed receipts showing Edwards had booked two rooms at the Bellagio hotel from Nov. 8 to Nov. 11 in 2025, as well as messages indicating that the woman was also in Las Vegas on at least one of those dates." Furthermore, he showered her with gifts, including "a custom puzzle that, when assembled, revealed an image of actor Adam Sandler alongside a handwritten note inviting the staffer to attend one of Sandler's comedy shows with him."

Moreover, the report continued, Edwards gave her a handwritten letter that appeared to express his affection for her when she departed her position.

"You are the most amazing woman," said the letter. "I only wish I could explain the joy and meaning to me for the time we spent together at the office — but especially away from it. Your kindness, encouragement, and light-heartedness have written a complex chapter in my heart that I will never stop reading." He signed the letter, "With my lifetime of appreciation and devotion, Chuck."
