Berkshire Hathaway made a substantial move in Q3 2025 by adding 4.3 million shares of Chubb Limited to its portfolio. The addition represented a 15.9% increase in holdings and was valued at approximately $1.2 billion.

The insurance giant’s stock has shown mixed performance this year. While CB shares gained 7.1% year-to-date, they lagged behind the S&P 500’s broader gains. Over the past 52 weeks, the stock rose just 3.1% compared to the index’s 22.3% advance.

Chubb’s Q3 2025 earnings provided a bright spot for investors. The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $7.49, surpassing analyst forecasts. This marked the fourth consecutive quarter of beating consensus estimates.

The earnings report revealed strong operational metrics. Underwriting income hit a record $2.26 billion. The combined ratio reached a record low of 81.8%, indicating improved profitability.

Net investment income grew 9.3% to $1.65 billion. Catastrophe losses came in at just $285 million, lower than typical quarters. Global property and casualty premiums increased 5.3%.

Shares jumped 2.7% following the earnings announcement on October 21. The market responded positively to the operational improvements and better-than-expected results.

Institutional Activity Shows Mixed Signals

While Berkshire increased its stake, other major investors moved in the opposite direction. UBS Asset Management completely exited its position, selling all 3.1 million shares worth approximately $875 million.

Capital International Investors reduced holdings by 44.5%, selling 2.8 million shares valued at $777 million. Capital World Investors trimmed its position by 16.9%, offloading 2 million shares worth $571 million.

Viking Global Investors fully liquidated its position in Q2 2025, selling nearly 2 million shares. FMR LLC decreased its stake by 11.2%, selling 1.6 million shares valued at $440 million.

Analyst Outlook and Price Targets

Twenty-five analysts currently cover Chubb stock. Nine rate it “Strong Buy,” one says “Moderate Buy,” and 13 maintain “Hold” ratings. Two analysts have bearish views with “Moderate Sell” and “Strong Sell” ratings.

The consensus rating stands at “Moderate Buy.” This marks a slight improvement from three months earlier when only eight analysts had “Strong Buy” ratings.

Cantor Fitzgerald raised its price target to $300 on October 27 while keeping a “Neutral” rating. The mean price target across all analysts sits at $309.83, suggesting 4.6% upside from current levels.

The highest price target reaches $340, implying potential gains of 14.8%. Analysts expect adjusted earnings per share to grow 4.4% year-over-year to $23.50 for the fiscal year ending December 2025.

Total institutional activity shows 877 funds added CB shares in the most recent quarter. Meanwhile, 935 institutional investors decreased their positions. The stock currently trades with a market cap of $116.6 billion.
