'Out of his damn mind': Trump's all-caps tirade stuns observers after NATO meeting

Political analysts and observers were outraged on Wednesday after President Donald Trump posted an all-caps rebuke of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, on Truth Social.

"NATO WASN’T THERE WHEN WE NEEDED THEM, AND THEY WON’T BE THERE IF WE NEED THEM AGAIN. REMEMBER GREENLAND, THAT BIG, POORLY RUN, PIECE OF ICE!!!" Trump wrote.

Trump posted the screed after meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The meeting occurred less than a day after Trump declared the U.S. and Iran had agreed to a two-week ceasefire in their war.

Trump had previously criticized NATO's unwillingness to help the U.S. reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway that accounts for 20% of the global energy trade.

Political analysts and observers reacted to Trump's screed on social media.

"The commander-in-chief of the world‘s deadliest killing force is out of his damn mind. Sleep lightly, my friends," journalist Mark Jacob posted on Bluesky.

"NATO allies were there for America after 9/11," Jeopardy champion Hemant Mehta posted on X.

"Trump still thinks Greenland is Iceland," Susan Carroll, a book editor, posted on X.

"Articles of Impeachment have been filed. There's also Section 4 of the 25th Amendment. The tools are there," journalist Jessica Coggins posted on Bluesky.
