Aspiring Democrat's brutal internet posts resurface just before decisive midterms

State Senator Nate Blouin, a Democratic candidate for Utah's newly-drawn Salt Lake City congressional district, faces scrutiny over resurfaced controversial internet posts.

According to Punchbowl News, Blouin's Reddit early activity included offensive language, sexually explicit comments, violent threats, and attacks on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, LDS Church.

Posts referenced child exploitation and included vulgar criticism of the LDS Church as a "drug cartel."

Blouin, 36, disavowed the posts, stating they are representative of an older version of himself and one he's ashamed of.

He apologized, "I won’t minimize what I wrote, and I believe every candidate forced to look at their old online activity should take full accountability for the person they once were behind their computer screen. To the people I hurt with my words, I sincerely apologize.”

The Salt Lake City district is expected to lean Democratic after the state's congressional map was redrawn following a Republican partisan gerrymander that violated voter-approved law. The GOP's ballot campaign to repeal the redistricting failed to achieve sufficient signatures.
