Taiwanese tech company Synology Inc. on Monday launched the PAS7700, an active-active all-flash NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) storage system in the Philippines, poised to help accelerate local enterprises’ data-intensive technology initiatives.

The company said that amid local enterprises’ digital transformation initiatives and increasing adoption of data-intensive technologies such as AI and analytics, storage has become imperative to support mission-critical operations.

This has prompted organizations to place greater emphasis on performance, service continuity, and long-term stability when evaluating enterprise storage infrastructure.

With the launch of PAS7700, it is addressing the evolving storage requirements of enterprises, Bie-i Chu, executive vice president of Synology NAS (Network-Attached Storage) group said in a statement.

After a year of extensive real-world validation through our enterprise proof-of-concept program, PAS7700 is field-proven to deliver high reliability and performance, while helping customers lower total cost of ownership (TCO).”

PAS7700 is suited for industries where storage performance is critical to operations, such as game development, semiconductor design, engineering consulting, and manufacturing. It is also designed for teams handling large files, virtual machines, and databases, among others.

By providing centralized high-performance storage with support for file storage, virtualized workloads, Fibre Channel connectivity, and active-active architecture, the PAS7700 helps businesses manage demanding workloads more smoothly,” Synology said.

It also gives organizations a more reliable foundation to support future needs, including AI-related workloads, system expansion, and ongoing operations with minimal disruption,” it added.

Among the key features of Synology’s PAS7700 is its design for mission-critical workloads, featuring dual controllers and 48 NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) SSD (Solid-State Drive) bays in a 4U chassis, with scalability of up to 1.65 petabytes of raw storage across seven expansion units.

It supports both file and block storage with broad protocol compatibility, including NVMe-oF (NVMe over Fabrics), iSCSI (Internet Small Computer Systems Interface), Fibre Channel, SMB (Server Message Block), and NFS (Network File System), and delivers up to 2 million IOPS (Input/Output Operations Per Second), sub-millisecond latency, and up to 30 GB/s sequential throughput.

The system also features an active-active architecture, allowing both controllers to operate simultaneously to minimize downtime, along with multiple protection layers such as triple-parity RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks), mirrored write cache protection, IP failover, and automatic failover mechanisms.

For data protection, PAS7700 supports SED (Self-Encrypting Drives), WORM (Write Once, Read Many) folders, immutable snapshots, Snapshot Replication, and Hyper Backup, providing enterprises with multi-layer resilience and recovery options for critical workloads.

Synology’s PAS7700 is already available in the Philippines and globally through its network of partners and distributors. — Edg Adrian A. Eva
