SK hynix to Launch New HBM Chip Facility Amid Soaring AI Demand

TLDRs;

  • SK hynix will open a new HBM manufacturing plant in Cheongju, South Korea, next year to meet rising AI demand.
  • The company aims to complete a massive memory production cluster by 2027, strengthening its global chip leadership.
  • SK Group is prioritizing efficiency and automation in chip production, partnering with Nvidia and other global players.
  • Technical and supply chain hurdles remain, but SK hynix is investing in advanced packaging and energy-efficient processes.

At the 2025 SK AI Summit held in Seoul, SK Group reaffirmed its commitment to scaling up its high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chip capabilities.

SK hynix, the conglomerate’s flagship semiconductor arm, announced plans to begin operations at a new HBM facility in Cheongju, South Korea, next year. The initiative is a direct response to the explosive rise in AI computing power demand, which has far outpaced available supply.

Chairman Chey Tae-won emphasized during the summit that the company’s strategy is shifting from sheer scale to operational efficiency and intelligent production, aiming to manage both the technical and economic challenges that accompany rapid AI infrastructure expansion.

Efficiency Over Scale

Chey highlighted that the race to deliver more powerful AI chips is becoming increasingly constrained by manufacturing bottlenecks and material shortages, especially in the HBM segment. While demand for memory with ultra-high bandwidth continues to skyrocket, production remains hindered by long lead times and unpredictable client orders.

To address these issues, SK hynix is pursuing a “smart efficiency” model, a system-wide upgrade to optimize design, production, and logistics through AI-driven automation. The company is also collaborating with Nvidia to integrate advanced digital manufacturing platforms that streamline workflows, reduce error rates, and improve yields.

Building the Next-Gen Memory Cluster

The upcoming Cheongju HBM plant will be complemented by a large-scale memory production cluster expected to be completed by 2027. This network will operate in parallel with new facilities in Yongin, South Korea, and Indiana, United States, marking SK hynix’s most ambitious expansion plan yet.

The cluster will support mass production of HBM4, the fourth generation of high-bandwidth memory, which SK hynix completed development on in September 2025. Mass production is scheduled for Q4 2025, leveraging cutting-edge MR-MUF packaging technology, a process that stacks memory dies with enhanced reliability while reducing defects.

With SK hynix already commanding an estimated 62% share of the global HBM market, the new facility is expected to cement its leadership in AI-grade memory solutions while easing supply pressure for clients such as Nvidia, AMD, and other major hyperscalers.

Sustainability and AI Integration

Beyond chips, SK Group’s AI ambitions extend to data centers and energy efficiency. SK Telecom, another group affiliate, unveiled new plans to expand its AI data center operations while partnering with other SK companies to design energy-optimized facilities.

Korea’s emerging data infrastructure landscape includes a 3-gigawatt AI data center project set to break ground in 2025, alongside a BlackRock-backed hyperscale hub and potential OpenAI partnerships in infrastructure development. These projects emphasize advanced cooling techniques, like liquid and immersion cooling, and smarter power distribution systems to handle fluctuating AI workloads.

The alignment of SK hynix’s chip production with SK Telecom’s AI infrastructure strategy underscores the group’s integrated approach to the AI economy, combining hardware, data, and sustainability under one innovation banner.

Headwind Helps Best Wallet Token

The post Headwind Helps Best Wallet Token appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Google has announced the launch of a new open-source protocol called Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) in partnership with Coinbase, the Ethereum Foundation, and 60 other organizations. This allows AI agents to make payments on behalf of users using various methods such as real-time bank transfers, credit and debit cards, and, most importantly, stablecoins. Let’s explore in detail what this could mean for the broader cryptocurrency markets, and also highlight a presale crypto (Best Wallet Token) that could explode as a result of this development. Google’s Push for Stablecoins Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) uses digital contracts known as ‘Intent Mandates’ and ‘Verifiable Credentials’ to ensure that AI agents undertake only those payments authorized by the user. Mandates, by the way, are cryptographically signed, tamper-proof digital contracts that act as verifiable proof of a user’s instruction. For example, let’s say you instruct an AI agent to never spend more than $200 in a single transaction. This instruction is written into an Intent Mandate, which serves as a digital contract. Now, whenever the AI agent tries to make a payment, it must present this mandate as proof of authorization, which will then be verified via the AP2 protocol. Alongside this, Google has also launched the A2A x402 extension to accelerate support for the Web3 ecosystem. This production-ready solution enables agent-based crypto payments and will help reshape the growth of cryptocurrency integration within the AP2 protocol. Google’s inclusion of stablecoins in AP2 is a massive vote of confidence in dollar-pegged cryptocurrencies and a huge step toward making them a mainstream payment option. This widens stablecoin usage beyond trading and speculation, positioning them at the center of the consumption economy. The recent enactment of the GENIUS Act in the U.S. gives stablecoins more structure and legal support. Imagine paying for things like data crawls, per-task…
