With Rory McIlroy headlining the field, and the event being played at Royal Melbourne, one of the top 10 courses in the world, the 2025 Crown Australian Open is shaping up to be a great event for golf fans everywhere.

2025 Australian Open – Event Preview

For the first time since 1991, the Australian Open is making its return to the most iconic golf course in Australia – Royal Melbourne. Royal Melbourne has played host to Presidents Cups in 1998, 2011 and 2019.

Royal Melbourne Golf Club consists of two golf courses, the East and the West. The West course is currently ranked 7th in the world by Golf Magazine, while the East course is also in the top 100 courses in the world, ranked 82nd. For the Australian Open however, they will be using a composite course, which is a combination of some of the best holes from both courses to make a spectacular 18 holes.

Besides winning a historic title and purse, there is more on the line this week in Melbourne. The winner of the Crown Australian Open will earn a spot in the 2026 Masters and Open Championship.

Besides McIlroy, there are other high profile players in the event. Joaquin Niemann, Ryan Fox, Si Woo Kim, and Australians Cam Smith, Adam Scott and Min Woo Lee are all in the field. In what would be considered the feature group, Scott and Lee are paired with McIlroy for the opening two rounds.
