PANews reported on January 7 that US President Trump stated on social media that Venezuela's interim administration will transfer 30 to 50 million barrels of high-quality, sanctioned oil to the United States. This oil will be sold at market prices, and the proceeds will be controlled by Trump to ensure they are used for the benefit of the Venezuelan and American people. Trump has instructed Energy Secretary Wright to immediately implement this plan. The oil will be transported by storage and transportation ships and delivered directly to US unloading terminals. Based on Tuesday's closing price for US crude oil futures, the 30 to 50 million barrels of oil are worth approximately $1.71 billion to $2.86 billion.
According to ABC News, sources revealed that the Trump administration has informed Venezuelan interim president Rodriguez that he must meet White House demands in order to obtain further permits for oil drilling. These demands include Venezuela agreeing to cooperate exclusively with the United States in oil production and prioritizing the US when selling heavy crude oil.
