Trump voters lash out at president during Iowa rally visit: 'This is horrible'

On the same day that Donald Trump was holding a rally in a tiny auditorium in Iowa, MS NOW’s Vaughan Hilyard found a pair of admitted Trump voters who are having second doubts about his return to office.

Reporting from Des Moines, he told the co-hosts of “Morning Joe,“ that the shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti in neighboring Minnesota cast an enormous cloud over the presidential visit.

After noting that inside the hall the president danced to “YMCA,” Hilyard reported that there was a phalanx of protesters outside in the deep red state.

“There were hundreds of Iowans protesting his arrival with signs about the killing of Alex Pretti and these deportation operations that are unfolding. And we saw that there were two protesters in that room that were kicked out. One of them dropped his phone, and a supporter of the president picked it up and smashed it to the ground,” he told the hosts.

He then shared interviews with Iowans, Marsha and Michael, who asserted they voted for Trump but now are having second thoughts.

Asked if the immigrant roundups were what she expected, Marsha replied, “Not like they're doing. Not like this. Not like this. This is horrible. Just horrible. I'm sick to my stomach.”

Michael was asked, “Does what you see make you uncomfortable?”

“Yeah. Yeah,” he replied. “I mean, I think anytime someone gets shot in the street, you should be uncomfortable and ask how we got to that point and what we can do to not get to that point again. It's happened twice, so something clearly isn't working.”

He added, “The rules are there. They need to be enforced but can't be shooting people in the street either.”
