PANews reported on February 11th that, according to CoinDesk, South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb admitted to mistakenly sending approximately 620,000 bitcoins (worth about $40 billion) to a customer due to an internal system control failure. The intended amount was only 620,000 won (about $428). The incident caused the price of BTC on the platform to plummet by 17% and triggered an investigation by South Korean financial regulators. Most of the assets have been recovered, but the whereabouts of 1,786 BTC that were sold remain unknown. Members of parliament strongly criticized the lack of regulation of virtual assets.
