Appearing on MS NOW to discuss CBS lawyers interfering with late-night host Stephen Colbert’s planned interview with Texas Democrat James Talarico, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) claimed she has not heard from Colbert to also appear to discuss her Senate bid.
Host Colbert put the network on the defensive after he was told he couldn’t show the interview on his show, or even mention rising star Talarico, because CBS lawyers feared retribution from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr.
That has set off another firestorm for CBS, which has been increasingly scrutinized after parent company Paramount paid a settlement to President Trump to make a lawsuit he had filed over a “60 Minutes” interview go away.
Speaking with the hosts of “Morning Joe,” Crockett was asked if she has heard from Colbert with an offer to also appear and she said she had not, but did hear from the parent company.
“Has Colbert invited you on his show since, especially since Talarico just announced that he raised $2.5 million off of this story?” fill-in host Jackie Alemany asked.
“No, I've not been invited on Colbert prior to his interview nor post his interview,” the Texas Democrat replied. “Obviously, I've done Colbert twice in the past, and so there were questions that people had about whether or not basically equal time, so to speak, had been offered to me in order to try to avoid Brendan Carr and his misinterpretation or his reinterpretation of the rules.”
“The only information that I got was after this debacle took place, I did receive a phone call from the parent company, from a representative for the parent company, that basically said they did not tell them they couldn't air it,” she added. “They just said, if you air it, just make sure that you offer the representative equal time. Now, obviously I wasn't engaged in that conversation, so I cannot confirm the veracity of any statements, but I can confirm that I had never been asked to go on as it relates to kind of talking about the Senate race.”
