Trump mocked after bizarre segue about fending off smooch: 'Now he understands consent?'
President Donald Trump went off on a bizarre tangent in his Friday speech, slamming the Supreme Court's decision to block his power to issue tariffs under emergency powers law — claiming that he visited a factory in Georgia, and the owner was so grateful for Trump's trade policies that the president had to fend off a smooch.
"'President, I'd love to kiss you' — this is a very powerful man. I don't want to be kissed by that man," said Trump. "But a very powerful, strong man ... he said, 'Sir, I want to kiss you so badly.' And I said, 'No thank you.'"
This story was met with both intense mockery and skepticism from commenters on social media.
"This sounds like a fishy story, but Trump says a man addressed him as 'Sir' & those 'Sir Stories' are always 100% true," wrote New Hampshire state Rep. Timothy Horrigan. "Or so I have heard."
"Did he offer Trump a TicTac first?" said writer "Polly Sigh."
"Oh, so now he understands consent?" wrote Campaign for New York Health director Melanie D'Arrigo.
"Is this the second time this week he's reminded us that he likes women not men?" wrote The Bulwark's Sam Stein.
"I don't want to be kissed by THAT man," echoed Aaron Bailey of Reel on Repeat, accompanying it with a meme of a man raising his eyebrows.
"Too bad he didn’t listen when women were telling him no," wrote Hudson Valley area real estate agent Nicole Esther.
